Redesign of a media display player

A redesign was carried out to meet the evolution of the Ubstream product.

Client

Ubstream (digital product publishing, SaaS)

Type

Redesign

Objective
The main goal was to enhance the user experience when browsing media on Ubstream. The previous player had limitations in terms of ergonomics, space management, and access to essential features. The redesign aimed to provide better immersion, smoother navigation, and optimized interaction with media content.

My Role

 • Conducted user needs analysis and identified pain points.

 • Designed wireframes and interactive prototypes.

 • Reorganized the high-fidelity interface for improved immersion and readability.

 • Collaborated with technical teams to implement the new interactions.

Before / After

Problem Statement

The previous interface had several limitations:

1. Limited space for media playback

     • A left sidebar reduced the available display area for the media.

     • Users couldn’t fully enjoy the content without distractions.

2. Confusing layout of action buttons

     • Controls were scattered and hard to access, forcing users to search for essential features.

     • Some actions required unnecessary multiple clicks.

3. Presence of distracting visual elements

     • UI elements (such as zoom overlays) disrupted focus on the media.

     • The interface was not optimized for an immersive experience.

4. Lack of integration for media-specific features

     • Some media-specific options (zoom, annotations, advanced playback) were either hard to access or missing entirely.

     • Interaction management with media was rigid and unintuitive.

Before / After

Solutions and Benefits

1. Removal of the permanent sidebar

     • Increased display area for better immersion.

     • Smoother user experience with enhanced media focus.

2. Reorganization of action buttons

     • Centralized and prioritized controls for quicker access.

     • Reduced number of clicks for essential actions.

3. Integration of media-specific features

     • Added contextual controls tailored to each media type (video, image, document, audio).

     • Improved interaction with new options such as quick media renaming.

Impact and Results

This redesign significantly improved media browsing on Ubstream by introducing a modern, intuitive, and efficient interface.

User engagement increased, demonstrating stronger adoption of the new player.

Thanks to streamlined and optimized navigation, the learning curve was reduced, while smoother interactions helped minimize user errors.

These improvements also enhanced user focus and overall comfort.
